Still no camera :(
Sigh. I still haven't been able to take any pictures of my projects. :(
Since my last post, I finished the body of my Wavy scarf. I still haven't figured out how I want to implement the pass-through. I could just make a slit like a buttonhole, but I'd rather do something more decorative. Ideas, anyone?
I spent Boston's mid-January blizzard at a friend's house, watching mostly-bad sci fi movies, and working on a fuzzy, pale-blue, spiral-ribbed cowl. I worked it in the round in Paton's Divine, a somewhat-chunky mohair/acrylic blend. I bought a ball of it to play with, and I don't love it. It's not bad, but it feels like acrylic in the hands, which is a little disappointing. It does make a nice, warm headgear, though. The pattern was inspired by the Aibhlinn cowl from this winter's issue of Knitty:
http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter04/index.html
It's different in that it uses a tighter spiral, leaves out the bobble trim, and has a very different look/hand in Divine.
I finished it off, and have started wearing it, but I'm going to make it longer once I get my hands on some more yarn. When I do, I'm also going to make:
- some mittens to match
- a tube top. The cowl almost fits as a top, actually, and is incredibly tarty. The new version would fit better, be longer (not exposing midriff), and probably incorporate some better shaping. I have a few ideas for varations (front-cross halter straps, etc.) that I might try out as well. I'd probably never wear it, but I'm sure I could foist it off on someone. :) Once it's done, I'll post pictures and a pattern (if anybody is interested).
***Update: July 7th, 2005. PICTURES!!!***
Now, I'm working on:
- that red L&L blanket. I've only got another six to eight inches to go, but haven't felt like working on it very often.
- scarves in my leftover L&L. I made one in the drop-stitch pattern I found at:
http://members.cox.net/thathappygirl/dropstitchpattern.htm
The pattern is very nice (and works up FAST), but it needed a little something. I tried double-stranding the L&L with some rust-range ribbon yarn, and it was cool, but damaged the hand, and wasn't quite what I was going for. I'm going to try some other stitch patterns, and see what works best.
- teensy decorative scarves. I bought a ladder-ribbon yarn (matrix by Berrocco, I think) in a neat green->teal colorway. I had intended to try it as a carry-along with the L&L for the scarf, but the colors looked too kindergarden. I tried a 2"-wide garter-stitch strip to tie around my neck, but it's a little rough against my skin. I went to my LYS (Mind's Eye Yarns in Cambridge, MA), and Lucy (the friendly and very helpful proprietrix) helped me pick out a spiffy chenille-look yarn in sage. It mutes the colorway somewhat, but should give it a nice marine feel. I also bought some hand-dyed merino sock yarn in varying shades of aqua, which has a lovely sheen to it, and should keep the colorway brighter.
We'll see where these end up. I just wanted a bright little something to tie around my neck indoors, but instead I got some new stuff for my play-with-this stash. Whee!
I know this is all hard to picture without photos. I'll get those in place as soon as I can.
